FANGO VIDEO LINES CHOKING HAZARD
FANGORIA and Media Blasters have acquired the Czech Republic zombie comedy CHOKING HAZARD as the debut release of their joint video-distribution venture Fangoria International. The movie will hit video stores in December.
Directed by Marek Dobes and written by Stepan Kopriva, CHOKING HAZARD details the plight of a group of people besieged by zombie woodsmen while at a weekend lecture and retreat. The humorous horror yarn played New Yorks Tribeca Film Festival last spring and at other European film events. Variety critic Eddie Cockrell called the film A comedy full of cheeky fun with buckets of raspberry-hued gore.
Though CHOKING HAZARD is played more for laughs, we are sure Fangorians will like our film, and our association with the label will be a great introduction for us to the U.S. market, Dobes says.
We were looking for the perfect picture to herald Fango International, and we could not think of a better film than CHOKING HAZARD, says Fango acquisitions chief Steven Mackler. The film is smart, funny and scary. Plus, CHOKING HAZARD offers a different perspective, a European one, on the traditional zombie formula. The film is fresh and unique.
CHOKING HAZARD could not come out at a more opportune time, says Fango editor Tony Timpone, who works with Mackler on the companys various DVD labels. Zombie films are hotter than ever, and SHAUN OF THE DEAD has proven that laughs and gross-outs can exist side by side if the filmmakers are hip enough to the material. Likewise, CHOKING HAZARD is an offbeat, witty and exciting mix of monsters and mirth. Plus, how many living dead films have you seen from the Czech Republic?
