MUSE WATSON CREEPS INTO BAYOU
Genre vets, character actors, and a host of fresh faces round out the cast of Bayou, the killer mutant fish frenzy we first reported about in early October. Under the guide of Silver Nitrate Productions, Bayou has begun principal photography, appropriately enough, in the state of Alabama and is causing enough of a stir to garner a little local press that revealed the film’s previously unannounced cast in an article.
Muse Watson, a Louisiana native and I Know What You Did Last Summer’s killer fisherman, top-lines the cast that also includes China Chow (The Big Hit), Reggie Lee (The Fast and the Furious), Marco St. John (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, Vicious), Mark Boone Jr. (John Carpenter’s Vampires), and Sean Patterson. Watson also carried a role in Nitrate’s initial genre production, Dead Birds. The filmmakers behind that film (previously mentioned here) hope to premiere it in next year’s Toronto Film Festival. Bayou, on the other hand, is also eyeing a 2004 release.
A story of genetically screwed up fish that get angrier as they grow in size, Bayou is director Mark Dipp return to the camera after 1997’s Spawn. The production not only promises to be tongue-in-cheek but also utilize a combination of practical and CG effects, with a strong emphasis on the latter. That shouldn’t come as any surprise, though: a career at Industrial Light & Magic runs through Dipp bloodstream.
