THE NET ATTACKS ALONE IN THE DARK
Interesting comments from the self-confessed king of game-to-film adaptations, Uwe Boll, over at IGN FilmForce today. He says his latest flick, ‘Alone in the Dark’, based on the game, has been pushed back because of…..thoe dastardly dudes and their Internet Explorer.
‘We did the test screening and the movie’s not finished It will go out in February, but we did a test screening and then two or three Internet freaks sitting in the test screening [started] writing s**t about the movie. The thing actually is, everybody who saw it really likes the movie, but it is a complicated movie…I’m really pissed right now about a few Web pages.’
‘The main point for me is, the same people writing that s**t on the Internet, these are the people that should be happy that someone is doing it, because the studio [doesn’t] give a s**t, they would do only Erin Brockovich movies mixed with Van Helsing. You see all the comic book movies, yeah this is what the studio executives are ‘getting.’ ‘Oh, I know it, because I read it 25 years ago.’ But videogames, they have no lobby We have that great new thing in the market That videogames are the best selling books of the younger generation, videogames are also influencing the whole entertainment industry, but it’s not true. It’s infiltrating, it has a connection to, like, us, but it has no connection to the studio people. They didn’t even know what Alone in the Dark is What I don’t get, what the strategy of these geeks is’.
Next up, says Boll, will probably be the film adaptation of ‘Far Cry’. Surprisingly, he says, The Rock is keen to do it. Now hang on a minute – how many goddamn video game pics can Dwayne be seriously interested in? He’s attached to ‘Doom’, rumoured for ‘Duke Nukem’….seriously?!
And Boll’s dreaming big when it comes to casting another of his forthcoming pics ‘Hitman’ too. ‘It’s not so easy. It could be a Vin Diesel. It could be a Bruce Willis-type, but also Jason Statham would be good, but he playing The Transporter, a little similar, and they’re doing The Transporter 2, so I’m a little concerned with using him for the movie. It’s not so easy. I’m a big fan of the movie The Professional with Jean Reno, this was a masterpiece, I’m a big fan of it. To bring Jean Reno back in a similar part would be very cool. He’s not looking like our Hitman, but a good actor can play everything’
