 has found a way to control the ghoul population, and this has led to a whole new industry where the creatures are now employed to perform menial tasks. One such zombie, named Fido (Billy Connolly), has become a member of the family and best friend to young Timmy Robinson (played by young actor K’Sun Ray). However, Timmy’s dad Bill (Dylan Baker from SPIDER-MAN 2) isn’t having anything to do with it, as Bill was forced to kill his own father after he became a ghoul. Thus, he is saving up for a proper burial—which includes separate interment for the head to avoid further resurrection.</p>
<p align=justify>“This is really a heartwarming adventure,” Ray says on the set without a trace of irony. “I really like that.”</p>
<p align=justify>Best described as the bastard child of LASSIE COME HOME and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, FIDO takes the familiar conventions of zombie horror movies and the idyllic life of 1950s America and mixes them with a dash of social commentary and black comedy to create a truly unique film. And yes, for the gorehounds, the film will have the requisite blowing-away of zombies.</p>
<p align=justify>Fango’s set visit takes place on day 24 of the 35-day shoot on a location in Kelowna, BC (six hours east of Vancouver). The setting is the ZomCon complex (in reality, a biofuel plant), where the company’s actions are finally coming to a head, as the zombies are running rampant. Bill and his wife Helen (the MATRIX films’ Carrie-Anne Moss) are about to raid the building on a rescue mission, and Bill is prepared for the worst. “And remember,” Bill says, “Head coffin!”</p>
<p align=justify>The film is a big departure for not only the director, but also the undead genre itself. “I was really influenced from old films from the ’50s, like big widescreen Technicolor movies by Douglas Sirk,” Currie notes. “I wanted to do a wide, colorful film with a lot of crane shots and dollies—a really smooth, beautiful-looking movie, which goes against the zombie-movie formula. But it is about a kind of ’50s world where everything seems perfect—the only thing is, the Earth has passed through a cloud of irradiated space dust and the dead have come back to life.”</p>
<p align=justify>The cast also includes Henry (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE) Czerny, and Tim Blake (MINORITY REPORT) Nelson. With Lions Gate handling distribution, Anagram is scheduled to deliver the finished film in March 2006, with festival play and then theatrical release to follow.
