Fango reported last week that the long-mooted film version of Jack Ketchum’s notorious 1989 novel THE GIRL NEXT DOOR is getting ready to roll this month on New Jersey locations for the Moderncine company, but the item contained a bit of erroneous casting info concerning the title character. Starring as Meg, the young girl who is subjected to unspeakable abuse by her disturbed Aunt Ruth and the latter’s sadistic sons, is actress Blythe Auffarth, who has appeared in numerous TV shows including LAW & ORDER and VERONICA MARS. Blanche (SIXTEEN CANDLES) Baker portrays Aunt Ruth, while Daniel Manche is David, the boy who befriends Meg and becomes a horrified witness to the tortures she suffers.
Once intended as a directing vehicle for Stuart Gordon, GIRL NEXT DOOR will be helmed by Gregory (HOME INVADERS) Wilson from a script by Dan Farrands and Fango contributor Phil Nutman. Look for more on GIRL NEXT DOOR on this site and in Fango’s pages in the near future.
