It seems like an absolute age ago since we were enjoying South African director Neill Blomkamp’s fantastic debut sci-fi effort ‘District 9’. But at least Blomkamp is hard at work on his new sci-fi follow up feature ‘Elysium’ and at long last the full plot synopsis, which has been pondered on for months now, is finally upon us. Matt Damon (‘Contagion’), Jodie Foster (‘Flightplan’), Michael Shanks, Sharlto Copley (‘The A-Team’), William Fichtner (‘Armageddon’), Alice Braga -below (‘Predators’), Diego Luna and Carly Pope all star in the futuristic feature that Blomkamp has also penned. “In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”
‘Elysium’ gets unleashed into theatres from 1 March 2013.
