Looks like Australia’s returning to it’s horror roots. Unfortunately, it’s not the long-awaited follow-up to “Houseboat Horror” in topic though.
American star Ashley Hamilton (son of the legendary George, and former star of soapie “Sunset Beach”) has teamed with a who’s-who of the Australian familiar faces committee to lead a new horror film.
Soapie stars Beau Brady [“Home and Away”] and Natalie Blair [“Neighbours”], as well as “Australia’s Next Top Model” host Erika Heynatz join Hamilton for the low-budget scream flick “Voodoo Lagoon”, which commenced filming on July 25th in Queensland.
John Noble, Lara Cox and Lincoln Lewis have also been cast in the movie, written and directed by Nicholas Cohen.
The film tells of a group of college students who book a bargain dream holiday to a remote tropical island, little knowing that they have been lured there by the island’s evil owner to fulfill an ancient voodoo prophecy.
Soon, what appears to be paradise is transformed as friends and siblings are pitched against each other in a desperate fight for survival. Doubt, suspicion and panic splinter the group as each member begins to fall victim to the terrifying reality of their own worst nightmares.
Meanwhile, Brady’s former “Home and Away” co-star Tammin Sursok is also getting in on the horror-film act. She’s been roped into a role in the new Aussie horror-fest “Dead Silence”, which although still unfunded, is about to shoot it’s teaser trailer to attract financers.
