You might recall a report Dread Central did recently about a movie called Chaos which, aside from an alleged remake of Last House on the Left, was being hyped as one of the most gory and all around messed-up movies ever made. Disturbing, brutal, and unforgiving were just some of the words used to describe it.
Well, one of their readers by the name of Mr. Rawk got a chance to see it in NYC, and he has some other, not quite so pleasant words for it…
“They really just had no idea of the sub-genre of horror they were trying to make a film in, nor what makes the films in this sub-genre successful. What I really didn’t get is how they flaunt how brutal and gory this movie is, when aside from one quality instance (maybe two if we’re being generous) it’s quite bland. Not only is there minimal gore, but there is NO intensity created by the camera work, editing or direction. Oddly enough the acting was pretty decent, and overall the dialogue was the only thing to keep me from napping. Structure and plot wise it’s about identical to Last House on the Left, even down to where the gang ends up…”
Well, that’s not good, and this isn’t the first overwhelmingly negative thing heard about it. There’s talk of it coming to DVD soon so I’m sure we’ll all get a chance to see if Rawk is justified, but this sure has dropped on my list of “must-see” films.
