Fans who were dissapointed by ‘Ghostbusters II’ will be happy to hear about a new Kickstarter campaign, started up by director Bradley Bjornstad. The new documentary and restoration project aims to raise $100,000 to fund the original version that was supposed to be released as the ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel. Bjornstad’s two-fold effort includes a documentary called ‘Ghostbusters 2 – The Original Version’. According to the director, the film would tell the story of how the original movie was supposed to be before “certain things happened during the production that altered the way the film came together.”
Unseen deleted footage such as a scene with Louis versus Slimer, as well as storyboards drawn up by Bjornstad to depict the un-filmed parts of the original script will make up the film. On-screen interviews with stars including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis may also feature in the documentary.
The second part of the Ghostbusters Kickstarter campaign is the Ghostbusters 2: Extended Cut. This will be a version of the movie where the deleted scenes are added back in. Bjornstad will need to acquire the deleted scenes and film’s negatives from Sony in order to complete the Extended Cut, which may prove to be difficult and expensive.
The news of Bjornstad’s efforts comes as a positive to Ghostbuster fans. The Ghostbusters II film disappointed a lot of audiences, who were looking forward to a new addition to the horror franchise which has already inspired two animated television series, countless video games and even an online themed slot at MoneyGaming.
However, there are already concerns arising over the lack of groundwork so far in the project. Other than compiling images and video clips, which were available online, Bjornstad appears to have not made much progress. This is not promising to potential pledgers who are hoping to receive a high-quality production in return for their investment. In the meantime, fans will have to await further updates and hope that their support can influence the Sony studio into approving the ‘Ghostbusters 3’ film.
