Not to be confused with Richard Kelly’s adaptation of the Richard Matheson story “Button, Button,” Barry Sonnenfeld is in negotiations to direct the supernatural action-adventurer The Box for 20th Century Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Southpaw Entertainment’s Richard Lewis is producing. Evan Spiliotopoulos is penning the screenplay, which serves up a contemporary take on the myth of Pandora’s box. “Box” centers on a college grad with an uncertain future who is tricked into opening the mythical box, unwittingly unleashing the evils trapped within. He then must team with Pandora to save the world from destruction. Described as summer event film, “Box” is being fast-tracked by Fox. Emma Watts is overseeing the project for the studio.
