Horror Returns To Sudbury – Taste The Blood Of Dead And SudBuried: Horrorthon VII

Sudbury, Suffolk’s very own horror film festival Dead And SudBuried returns this October, with a horror packed schedule featuring 8 classic horrors, 8 brand new festival run features including one UK premiere, 19 new horror shorts, food trucks, merchandise and much more over three scare filled days from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd October 2023.

The Dead And SudBuried Horrorthon began life in 2016 in darkest Suffolk in the small market town of Sudbury as a celebration of classic horror movies, screening seven classics over a single day in the intimate venue of The Quay Theatre. The horrorthon returned subsequent years, building on its success and growing each year until 2021, when the fifth event expanded to two days, adding brand new festival features including UK premiere and horror shorts from around the world, adding live director and cast Q&A’s and attracting a bigger audience of attendees from all over the UK.

The classic horror movies, selected by voting over social media over the summer are made of up the Korean zombie classic Train To Busan, Shirley Jackson’s ghostly masterpiece The Haunting, Wes Craven’s The People Under The Stairs, the British underground cannibal Death Line, gloopy sci-fi remake The Blob, modern Vampire Near Dark, Stephen King’s almost prophetic The Dead Zone and 80’s comedy slasher Motel Hell!

The brand new festival circuit features include the practical-FX driven comedy currently wowing festivals up and down the UK, How To Kill Monsters, the UK premiere of grim, Australian survival horror Beaten To Death, British seaside slasher Punch featuring a brand new iconic villain, brilliant British anthology horror Lore described as a tub of fun, stunning portrait of 24 hours in the day of a serial killer The Black Mass, beautiful fantasy-documentary The Pocket Film Of Superstitions, creepy and genuinely scary ghost story The Moor and the 16mm 70’s style exploitative shocker Eight Eyes. 19 stunning horror shorts from all over the world finalise the bill accompanying the features with the added bonus of live director Q&A’s, horror memorabilia, giveaways, local discounts with retailers, food trucks and more surprises planned throughout the weekend.

Andy Piper, Organiser says ”We started Dead and SudBuried eight years ago to bring classic horror movies to our lovely, sleepy town of Sudbury and since then it’s been amazing to see it grow in scale with the audience to feature brand new unreleased horror movies. We’re so fortunate to have an event of this scale here in Sudbury featuring fantastic movies, that have played and won awards at the most prestigious and famous horror film festivals around the world like FrightFest, GrimmFest, Stitges to name but a few. It’s an honour for our little festival to be included alongside huge, established events and for their directors visiting our small market town after travelling the world premiering their movies to take part in Q&A’s with the audience after the screening!”

“This is a huge deal for not just horror movies, but movies in general and it’s taking place right here in little Sudbury!” Andy continues, “Dead And SudBuried is becoming the kind of large scale event we could only imagine when we first launched way back in 2016 and for a horror fan, it’s a dream come true”

Taste The Blood Of Dead And SudBuried: Horrorthon VII takes place at The Quay Theatre, Quay Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 2AN, starting at 6pm on Friday 20th October from 6.30pm through to Sunday 22nd October 2023. Single day tickets start at £20 and weekend tickets are £35 plus booking fees. More information, full schedule, film guide and tickets can be found at www.deadandsudburied.co.uk
