Writer/director Jonathan Levine’s (‘All the Boys Love Mandy Lane’) adaption of the Isaac Marion novel ‘Warm Bodies’ arrives in theatres this August and the filmmaker has been chatting with USA Today. Actor Nicholas Hoult (‘Skins’, ‘X-Men: First Class’) stars in his latest role as a lovestruck zombie who falls for the girlfriend of one of his victims, played by the goregous Teresa Palmer (‘The Grudge 2’, ‘I Am Number Four’). Director Levine spoke about his new project and to accompany his interview with USA Today also revealed a couple of new sneaky peeks of Nicholas Hoult in his role as ‘R’. Rob Corddry (‘Hot Tub Time Machine’), John Malkovich (‘Burn After Reading’, ‘Red’) and Lizzy Caplan (‘True Blood’) all co-star in the project. Check out a brief excerpt from the interview below as well as the two new official stills.
“So R eats brains and does all kinds of nasty stuff at first, but at his heart, he’s an innocent.”
He’s made more innocent when he chows down on the brain of a dead young man and suddenly falls madly in love with the guy’s girlfriend (Palmer). After saving the girl’s life, R begins to evolve into a more human form with a limited vocabulary (a step up from groaning) and takes part in non-zombie activities.
He attempts “to do a lot of things to varying degrees of success,” Levine says. “Driving, for instance. Let’s just say his hand-eye coordination is not what it needs to be.”
And here’s the plot:
“The story centers upon an existentially tormented zombie who begins an unlikely friendship with the girlfriend of one of his victims and starts a chain reaction that will transform him and his fellow zombies.”
‘Warm Bodies’ is set for a 10 August 2012 release.
