Well it’s official then. A follow up to Marcus Nispel’s 2009 ‘Friday the 13th’ remake is getting a sequel. Paramount, who secured the rights to the franchise from Warner Bros earlier this year, have set a Friday 13 March 2015 release date for ‘Friday the 13th: Part 2’, or indeed whatever title they ultimately decide on. Paramount have 5 years in order to theatrically release a ‘Friday the 13th’ movie before the rights go back to Warner Bros’ whom gave up their rights to the franchise in order to join up on Christopher Nolan’s next sci-fi epic ‘Interstellar’. Platinum Dunes will produce but at this stage nothing is actually known about what is planned for the continuing storyline although there have been rumours about possibly attempting a ‘found footage’ style.
The 2009 version starred Jared Padalecki (‘Supernatural’), Danielle Panabaker (‘The Ward’), Amanda Righetti (‘The Mentalist’) and Derek Mears (‘Hatchet III’) as Jason Vorhees.
