Recently Fangoria told you here about a new movie called SSSLITHER (unrelated to Universal/James Gunn’s upcoming SLITHER) about giant killer eels. Jeff Farley of FX company Obscure Artifacts sent over a pic of a creature maquette his outfit created for the project. “About three years ago, [Artifacts partner] Chris Bergschneider and I got a call from Jeff Porter about doing a giant eel movie with [producer] Mike Elliott. We proceeded to fabricate a maquette and diorama setup for AFM and then, nothing. That is, until just a month or so ago, when I got a call from Mike about him needing the maquette and some prop body parts. The creatures were all done with CGI; I have no problem with that, as we’ve already handled that sort of stuff on LEECHES! Basically, Chris and I will just be credited with the creature design and fabrication of the makeup effects. Yael Tsour was referred to us by DEAD MEN WALKING’s Dan Kaplan to handle the set work, and I’m told she did an amazing job.”
Farley, who was recently busy on a Stan Lee project called LIGHTSPEED, also has a bunch of other horror work on his plate. “I’m just starting BROTHERHOOD OF BLOOD with the folks at Psycho Studios, who I just finished DEMON BOARD, THE THIRST and SLAUGHTER COVE with,” he reveals. “It stars Jason Connery—this is my third film in a row with him! Chris recently handled the effects for Rolfe Kanefsky’s NIGHTMARE MAN. Originally, I was going to key it also, but ended up designing the demon and passing the job along to Chris when I got busy. Chris and I have also been separately doing jobs for Charlie Band. We’ve been pretty busy!” Farley is also in the early stages of development on another creature feature called HARVESTERS (more on that one soon) and is about to bid on “a cool 1970s remake.” Keep your eyes here for more details.
