Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY) is offering a rare chance to check out George A. Romero’s cult classic THE CRAZIES with not only the director in attendance, but one of the film’s stars as well. Lynn (I DRINK YOUR BLOOD) Lowry will join Romero for the screening, presented by CAMP Festival & VAMP Productions, Sunday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m.
The film is set in a small town where a bio-weapon is accidentally unleashed that turns the residents homicidal, and the military steps in to “keep the peace” in ways that prove just as violent. (A remake had been in the works recently with SESSION 9’s Brad Anderson directing for Paramount, though Dread Central reported that the project look like it’s been scuttled due to a studio regime change.)
Tickets are $12 for members and $17 for the general public; the Centre is recommending advance reservations, so go to the site linked above or call the box office at (631) 423-FILM. Lowry fans will want to arrive earlier for a 5 p.m. showing of SUGAR COOKIES, her 1973 erotic thriller (no one under 18 admitted!) directed by a pre-Troma Lloyd Kaufman that co-stars Mary Woronov, which Lowry will also attend.
