Takahashi gained prominence in the horror genre with collaborations with director Hideo Nakata on films such as “Don’t Look Up” (1996) and “The Ring” (1998), contributing significantly to the J-horror boom. His other screenplay credits include “Serpent’s Path” (1998, directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa), “Orochi: Blood” (2008, directed by Norio Tsuruta), and Netflix’s “Ju-On: Origins” (2020, directed by Shō Miyake). When Naomi calls Mizuki via Zoom, they talk about the new play. It is based on a strange incident about a woman’s disappearance that she saw on a TV program a while ago. The daughter claims that she saw her mother running out into the garden and disappearing
without a trace. Then she finds scorch marks on the ground where she vanished.
