You’ve been reading a lot about the two-CD heavy-metal soundtrack for MASTERS OF HORROR—but what of the composers who are contributing music to the IDT/Showtime fright series? In addition to Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, who did the music for this week’s Tobe Hooper episode DANCE OF THE DEAD, MASTERS contributor John Landis revealed a few more recently. “I used Peter Bernstein, who has scored quite a bit of stuff, for DEER WOMAN; he’s the son of Elmer Bernstein [who scored Landis’ AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and ANIMAL HOUSE, among others], and I went to school with him. Elmer took us to see the Beatles when we were 15!”
In addition, Landis says, “Goblin did the music for Dario’s [JENIFER], and that’s pretty spectacular. Cody Carpenter, the son of Adrienne Barbeau and John Carpenter, did the music for John’s [CIGARETTE BURNS], and I know that Mick Garris’ [CHOCOLATE] was done by Nicholas Pike,” who also did Garris’ CRITTERS 2, SLEEPWALKERS, the SHINING miniseries and RIDING THE BULLET, and is additionally doing the music for William Malone’s FAIR HAIRED CHILD. And for SICK GIRL, Lucky McKee is using his MAY and THE WOODS composer Jaye Barnes-Luckett, who will be credited under the name of her band Poperratic. The group will release an album next year containing the SICK GIRL songs and others.
