Tobe Hooper re-teams with his Toolbox Murders crew for this ghoulish little tale about Lesley Doyle and her two kids, Jonathan and Jamie who move to a new town to take over the local mortuary after the death of her husband. The house is completely run down and Jonathan soon learns that the funeral home was previously owned by the Fowler family.
When Jonathan finds a job and some friends at the local Diner, he learns the history of creepy Bobby Fowler and the Mortuary. Local folks say there’s something in the soil and that Bobby’s still alive. Jonathan will soon discover for himself if there’s any truth in the rumours.
The film starts well and managed to hold my attention throughout thanks to its great blend of humour and horror, along with its good cast of familiar faces and newcomers alike.
The set design is a strong factor here, as are the practical effects; things which Hooper normally takes great care with, but the awful CGI really lets the film down.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Mortuary is a gory fun-filled fright fest perfect for Halloween night.
