Fangoria contributor and filmmaker Anthony C. (BOO) Ferrante passed on first news on set from his latest project HEADLESS, a new take on the Sleepy Hollow legend he has directed for Active Entertainment and the Sci Fi Channel. “I’ve always been a big fan of the [Washington Irving] story, and this was an opportunity to rethink it as a modern-day horror movie,” Ferrante tells us, “and it’s always fun coming up with news way of decapitating people.”
Filmed in Romania and starring Richard (NIGHTMARE MAN) Moll, Billy Aaron (JEEPERS CREEPERS 2) Brown and BOO alumni M. Steven Felty and Trish Coren, HEADLESS was produced by Ken Badish (the man behind the Sci-Fi Channel’s guilty pleasure MANSQUITO), who tells Fango that the concept came from meetings he had with the genre network’s programmers “Thomas Vitale, Chris Regina, Ray Cannella and Karen O’Hara, who are just incredible at working with us to take creative bits and help weave them into great feature-film ideas.”
“This is a really unique spin on the Headless Horseman legend,” says Ferrante. “It doesn’t go in the obvious directions you would expect, and since this isn’t really set in Sleepy Hollow but a completely different town, it gave us the freedom to come up with a whole new backstory that we haven’t quite seen before.”
Looking to create impressive, gory and, most importantly, signature deaths (no small feat given director Tim Burton’s memorable 1999 filmic take on the legend), Badish tapped FX creator Todd (SLiTHER) Masters to provide not only the grue but the design of the titular character, and the producer couldn’t be happier with the end results. “While we have delivered super-scares in some of our other shows, such as LARVA, Anthony and our production team have given us something special. The look, feel, suspense, characters and environment all add up to the best and slickest horror/suspense film we’ve ever produced.” While no airdate has yet been announced, stay tuned to this site for further developments.
