Korean director Bong Joon-Ho’s excellent monster feature ‘The Host’ (AKA ‘Gwoemul’), released back in 2006, has been flagged for the sequel treatment for a little while now. But it seems we may all have to wait a little longer to see the outcome as news comes that the follow-up will be arriving in theatres in 3D. ‘The Host 2’ is set for the third-dimension and won’t likely now see a release until some time in 2012. Song Kang-ho (‘Thirst’), Byeon Hie-bong, Park Hae-il, Bae Doona (below) and Ko Ah-sung all starred in the original.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
“‘The Host 2’, is being prepped as a 3D project, according to the film’s producer Chungeorahm Films. “Given the nature of the film and the current trends in the global film market, we think that 3D is the medium to go,” said Su-yeon Kim at the company’s international business division. “But this will delay the film’s release date and bring significant changes to the film’s logistics.”
The original movie, dealt with a mutant squid monster attacking people riverside. Amongst them teenager Park Hyun-seo is carried by the creature and vanishes in the river. Whilst grieving her loss, her slow father Park Gang-du; her grandfather and owner of a bar-kiosk nearby the river Park Hie-bong; her aunt and archery medalist Park Nam-Joo; and her graduated unemployed uncle Park Nam-il are sent by the army with all the people that had some sort of contact with the monster to quarantine in a facility. During the night, Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-seo telling that she is alive in a big sewage nearby the river.
