It appears that ‘Gravity’ is certainly having its’ ups and downs. The Alfonso Cuaron (‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, ‘Children of Men’) helmed sci-fi thriller managed to lose it’s original leading lady Angelina Jolie, whom was subsequently replaced by Sandra Bullock, following a host of female names being thrown about such as Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson (below). But now it’s one seemingly locked-in cast member has also decided to part ways. Deadline are reporting that Robert Downey Jr has left the project due to scheduling conflicts. Although Warner Bros themselves are denying this fact. So a possible work-a-round deal may be on the cards to keep Downey attached.
Robert Downey Jr will in fact be working hard on ‘The Avengers’ movie around the same time and so whether he can fit it all in or not is yet to be seen. Bullock herself is amongst those championing his potential stay.
“The lone survivor of a space mission to repair the Hubble telescope desperately tries to return to Earth and reunite with her daughter.”
So a lone mission type flick shouldn’t require too much involvement from Rob, so why doesn’t he just stick with it. I guess it all depends on scheduling, locations and to what extent he’s needed in front of the camera. Perhaps he’ll get more of a voice role similar to what Kevin Spacey played in ‘Moon’?
