Tom Hardy and Tony Todd star in this horror film based on the Greek myth of the Minotaur, and it’s surprisingly enjoyable.
Every few years, a village is raided and seven youngsters are taken as sacrifices for the Minotaur. Theo (Hardy) is informed that his lover who was taken previously is still alive so concocts a plan to switch places with one of the sacrifices and heads off in search of his beloved Ffion. Cue Jason and the Argonauts style stuff with Tony Todd as a leather clad baddie.
This was surprisingly refreshing to watch, as gone are the days of Jason and the Argonauts type fantasy adventure films. It has a good international cast, excellent set design and costumes, a great monster and some very gory and shocking deaths.
OVERALL SUMMARY
The film looks good and moves at a pretty fast pace so you’re never bored. I would recommend this for rental. You may be pleasantly surprised (as I was).
