    BLOOD DRIVE SHORT COMPETITION

As reported in the current issue of FANGORIA (#226), the magazine and video producer/distributor Koch Vision are teaming to sponsor The FANGORIA Blood Drive, a short horror film competition in which the winning entries will be featured on an exclusive BLOOD DRIVE compilation DVD, due in May 2004.

‘Over the last few years, I have been amazed by the short films that I￿ve been seeing at horror and fantasy film festivals all over the world,’ says FANGORIA editor Tony Timpone, a producer on BLOOD DRIVE. ‘The talent and ingenuity on display represents the future of the industry, though sometimes these impressive works fall between the cracks. The FANGORIA Blood Drive is the perfect way to bring all these wonderfully creative beginners together under one roof and provide them the kind of exposure and recognition they truly deserve.’

‘As the publisher of FANGORIA, STARLOG and the late CINEMAGIC magazines, I have always strived to report inspiring tales of the moviemaking process, as well as instill in budding film buffs the strong desire to chase their dreams,’ Fango publisher Norman Jacobs adds. ‘Many of the industry￿s top creators point to our publications as helping to launch their careers and ignite their passions to become filmmakers. With FANGORIA￿s Blood Drive competition, that spark will be lit again for a new generation of cinematic imagineers. Thanks to our company￿s partnership with Koch, it will be an honor to present the works of these emerging talents.’

The shorts must run no longer than 13 minutes, and the contest is open to professionals and beginners alike, utilizing all major formats. Filmmakers should go to www.fangoriablooddrive.com for a complete list of rules, deadlines and other news on the contest, which officially launches September 1. The Blood Drive DVD will also sport exclusive magazine-style features produced by New York-based Longview Entertainment, including on-camera interviews with genre greats Clive Barker, Rob Zombie and FX guru/producer Stan Winston, who￿ll offer a tour of his shop.

‘The level of support we have received from the filmmaking community is a testament to the desire of these established artists to nurture the next wave of writers, directors and producers,’ says project creator and executive producer Tim Hinsley of BLOOD DRIVE￿s featured celebrities. ‘We are very pleased at the response we have received so far and are looking forward to seeing the films and showcasing them on the world stage.’

So if you want to enter, get cracking! The Blood Drive ends November 30, 2003, with the winners chosen by December 31. Scenes from winning films will also be showcased at January￿s Weekend of Horrors convention at the Meadowlands Sheraton Hotel.
