It’s been a couple of years since anything had been heard about the feature adaption of the hugely popular sci-fi video game ‘BioShock’. We’ve had Gore Verbinski (‘Pirates of the Caribbean’) set to direct, who then left the project and was replaced Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (’28 Weeks Later’). But since then pretty much nothing’s materialised and so Industry Gamers thought they’d put the question to Ken Levine, the creative director over at Irrational Games – the studio behind ‘BioShock’. But it doesn’t appear that it’s a high priority at this stage. A new ‘BioShock’ first-person shooter game called ‘BioShock Infinite’ will hit the PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows next year. Check out what Levine had to say on the subject of pushing this project forward below.
“For us there’s no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made,” he said in the new interview. “For us and for Take-Two, it’s really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don’t know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game.”
He added, “There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats. But you know, we don’t have a need to get it made.”
“‘BioShock’ takes place in the underwater city of Rapture, where a pilot crash-lands near a secret entrance and becomes involved in a power struggle.”
