Stephen King’s ‘Pet Sematary’ Remake Searching For High-Level Director

Personally I think the 1989 adaption of Stephen King’s ‘Pet Sematary’ is right up there as one of the best adaptions of a King novel to date. The fact that King wrote the screenplay probably helped too. It’s sinister, dark and damn creepy – particulary the kid and the sister! It’s been set to be remade for a while now with Matt Greenberg (‘Halloween: H20’, ‘1408’) prepping the script. And now it seems that Paramount have put the word out to agent representatives that they are currently searching for a high-level director to “tackle the material”. Mary Lambert helmed the original but it’ll be interesting to see which way they go with the revamp. Last July Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura had said that the project is not intended to be watered down – so hopefully no piss-poor PG-13 rating for this baby!

Here’s the plot from the 1989 original:

“The Creed family has moved to a nice little community, but shortly after the move, their son is killed. Grief-stricken, the father fins out that there is a cemetery where you can bury your loved ones, and they can come back to life. He takes his son to this place, and he is brought back. It seems all is well again, until the son kills a person. That is where the father learns , “Not everything that comes back is the same.” Now, he has to find a way to stop his son before he kills the whole town.”
