BARKER NEWS BONANZA
What it is with Clive Barker these days, anyway? News surrounding this guy either comes down the new pipeline in drips and drops and at other times it’s as if someone’s opened the floodgates.
In a mini-exclusive, Creature-Corner has learned that Barker and producer Jorge Saralegui have paired up to form an independent production company whose focus will fall entirely on genre products. The duo haven’t chosen a name as of yet for the company. Saralegui’s credits include Red Planet, Queen of the Damned, and The Time Machine. Man, that’s one grim resume. Maybe with Barker’s creative talent and Jorge’s money-attracting abilities some good will come of this partnership.
On the non-exclusive tip, Clive Barker’s official website has amassed a wealth of updated info regarding some projects the man currently has cooking in the fire.
Apparently Clive’s just turned in a script adaptation of his Books of Blood short story Midnight Meat Train and promises that’ll it will be every bit as gruesome as his original tale. That script is now currently in the hands of an unnamed independent production company. If you recall, Candyman director Bernard Rose was going to turn Midnight Meat Train into a Candyman sequel, but that never jived. And the story was also adapted for Bill Condon’s Books of Blood abandoned anthology film too.
Writers Drew McWeeney and Scott Swan have handed over their adaptation of Dread, a project in which Fox and Barker’s own Seraphim Films are developing. And in other adaptation news, it seems Warner Bros. and Barker are flirting around with the idea of bringing a well known writer to come in and do a ‘final draft’ of Damnation Game. Nothing’s locked in though and Barker’s not stating who the write is, but we have our suspicions.
Also, paranormal investigator Scott Ba…I mean, Harry D’Amour may see another silver screen adventure before an actual television series. Hell, why they didn’t grab Backula for a D’Amour show before he went off to do the awful Enterprise is beyond me.
There’s a helluva lot more updates to check out at the site including news on the Tortured Souls film for Universal; the ‘whatever happened to that project?’ Barker concept called Bloody Mary.
