BOYZ II DETH WRAPPED
We always knew boy bands were evil, and director David DeCoteau shows us we were right in THE DARKNESS (formerly BOYZ II DETH), which he wrapped this past weekend after shooting in Malibu, Bronson Caves and other CA locations.
Scripted by Fangos Michael Gingold and Matthew Jason Walsh and produced by Jeff Schenck for Regent Entertainment, the movie focuses on a singing group called Take 10 whose members are actually the undead. When the band brings the winners of an AMERICAN IDOL-style competition for a new lead singer to their remote mansion, one of the newcomers (played by GENERAL HOSPITALs Steven Martinez) discovers their ghoulish secret.
Adrienne (THE CONVENT) Barbeau plays the bands manager, and the movie also stars Jeremy Jackson (David Hasselhoffs son on BAYWATCH) and Ryan Starr (from the real AMERICAN IDOL), with a cameo by John Waters veteran Mink Stole. DeCoteau film regulars Jeffrey S. Farley and Christopher Bergschneider created the makeup FX; the movie will be completed by the end of 2003 for release sometime in 2004. Regent will begin presales and unveil the trailer at the MIPCOM international film and TV market this fall in Cannes.
