BRETT’S HOUSE OF 1000 SCREAMS
Indie horror director Brett (THEY BITE) Piper, who has three (count em!) features hitting video in 2003PSYCLOPS and DRAINIAC are already out, with ARACHNIA arriving July 22 from MTIhas teamed with the E.I. Independent Cinema folks for his latest, HOUSE OF 1000 SCREAMS. Its a macabre horror movie about a sinister photographer who brings some models out on a photo shoot for a book hes doing about the anatomy of fear, Piper tells Fango. It turns out that the location is genuinely haunted by some sort of madman who is resurrected by the presence of these people. What it really is, to be honest, is a horror-movie allegory about the nasty side of show business.
But who cares about that? Its got ghosts and its got Misty Mundae, says Piper, who promises that HOUSE is a bit of a departure for E.I.s most popular star. This will give her a little more of an opportunity to show what she can do as an actress. As for the rest of the cast, The lead actor, Rob Monkiewicz, has been in PSYCLOPS and ARACHNIA, and hes coming back for this, and it looks like the lead actress will by Rachel Robbins, whos done stuff for the Playboy Channel.
Given E.I.s recent spate of genre spoofs, you might think HOUSE is intended as a lampoon of a certain new shocker directed by a popular rock star. Yet Piper admits, The title isnt one I especially care for, but I had to type something on the front page, and it just sounded to me like a typical Eurohorror name from the 60s, like something Jess Franco might have done. I dont particularly like it, but it seems to have grown on people, and Im afraid I might be stuck with it. As on all his features, Piper will do the FX himself, with shooting scheduled for late April in New Jersey.
