KRISTANNA TALKS T3
This past weekend, Fango returned to the set of TERMINATOR 3 for the last weekend of shooting and caught up with Kristanna (MORTAL KOMBAT: CONQUEST) Loken, the villainous T-X a.k.a. the Terminatrix in the movie, who is sent back in time to kill John Connor (or is she? The production is being extremely vague about the details of the plot). Clad in red leather from head to toe and her blonde hair pulled tight over her head, Loken spent a few minutes between takes of her demolishing a bathroom (using Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 character as a battering ram) to chat it up.
‘I did about six weeks of training before we started with an Israeli form of fighting that they teach their military called Krav Maga,’ Loken says about her days leading up to the 100-day (and on-schedule) shoot. ‘I worked with a mime coach, I did weapons training and I did weights training.’
Though Stan Winston and others have hinted about what we can expect to see the T-X do, guaranteed to be an FX showcase on par with the groundbreaking T-1000 in T2, little is known about what Loken and her digital double will be up to. Naturally, she stays pretty tight-lipped, too, referencing a ‘pact’ she made with director Mostow not to reveal anything. She would say, however, a bit about how close the T-X is to what has come before.
‘Because it’s a female Terminator that we haven’t seen before, I really had certain liberties to create my own,’ Loken reveals. ‘Some people say that it’s kind of a mixture between Arnold and Robert Patrick’s character, but she really plays a lot with the feminine side to get what she wantsto obtain her objectives.’ How? ‘Just by using her feminine charms.’ Feminine wiles on a robot? ‘Yep. She has a target and she’ll do whatever it takes to get it,’ Loken comments with a sultry smile.
See? Blood from a stone.
Loken spoke a little about the fight choreography, as we’re going to see this tall (she’s 5-foot-11), thin model-turned-actress smashing into walls and breaking right through them as, at the end of the day, a T-X is still a pretty heavy machine.
‘It’s different [from other movie fights] in the fact that you haven’t seen anything like it, because it’s just the sheer force,’ Loken explains. ‘With the weight of the Terminators and everything, it’s a lot of really violent, large-scale things.’ As for how much is her and how much is stuntwomen, she replies, ‘I do what I can. I don’t do the going-through-the-wall bits or stuff like that, but I’ve done quite a bit.’
