Lutz Sues Amityville Remakers
Fango has learned that George Lutz, whose experiences with his family in the infamous Long Island house inspired both AMITYVILLE HORROR features, has filed suit against the filmakers and production companies/distributors associated with this years AMITYVILLE remake. The complaint alleges that the movie, which depicts the Lutz character played by Ryan Reynolds going violently insane under the houses evil influence, is defamatory per se in that [it] exposes Lutz to hatred, contempt, ridicule and obloquy because it shows him committing various crimes including, but not limited to, premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and animal cruelty, and thus violates terms of an agreement between Lutz and the films original producers that the movie would not defame or libel him. Lutz is also suing over breach of contract regarding a box-office bonus payment that was part of his contract with those original producers. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court June 10; representing Lutz is Larry Zerner, who was FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IIIs Shelley once upon a time before becoming an entertainment lawyer and also repped screenwriter Daniel Farrands in his plagiarism suit (settled amicably) against the makers of DARKNESS FALLS.
