Remember the Hammerhead!
Every person reading this right now should tune in to the Sci-Fi Channel this Saturday night and watch the premiere of Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy.
Despite having a title that makes it sound like a Jaws knock-off based around man-eating hammerhead sharks, Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy, which is at once the greatest and worst title in the history of cinema, has to do with one of those pesky, nature tampering mad scientist types that creates a half-man/half-hammerhead shark through an unholy blending of shark DNA and stem cells.
‘An alienated scientist invites his former colleagues to a remote island, to test the results of his experimental new cancer research. But the guests soon find themselves the prey in a ‘most dangerous game’ scenario that pits them against their spurned associate’s bloodthirsty mutant hammerhead-shark creature.’
And by ‘remote island’ they really meant, ‘filmed on location in Bulgaria.’
Would it shock you to know that this is yet another fine Nu Image production? Of course it wouldnt.
So who’s playing the mad scientist responsible for giving life to this rubber suit monstrosity? Who always ends up getting cast as the mad scientist in B-movies? Yessiree bob, it’s none other than Dr. Herbert West himself, Jeffrey Combs! In a recent Dread Central interview with him, Combs described the production as having been ‘a difficult shoot filled with a lot of unfortunate problems’. Dont know exactly what he meant by that but theres a very good chance it had to do with problems the cast had keeping a straight face when sharing the screen with the title monster.
Joining him as potential sharkman bait are William Forsythe, who himself was last seen on the Sci-Fi Channel battling mutant bat-like parasites in Larva, and soap opera vixen Hunter Tylo, who herself described the movie awhile back in an interview as being a cross between ‘Tomb Raider and Predator’. Im betting thats what her agent told her when pitching her the script.
Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy premieres on the Sci-Fi Channel Saturday night at 9PM EST with an encore four hours later, plus one more showing at 9PM EST on Thursday the 23rd.
