Oh Danny Boyle, the infected are calling. The award winning Brit director of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Trainspotting’ looks like he may be returning to the genre, as half-expected, to helm the second zombie(ish) sequel to his original ’28 Days Later…’. The 2002 movie featured a small group of survivors left in a semi-abandoned London to face a horde of angry infected victims. It was followed up in 2007 with the expertly crafted sequel ’28 Weeks Later’, from Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Boyle was still on hand as exec producer but it seems he wants to return behind the camera to work on what potentially could be titled ’28 Months Later’.
Boyle spoke to a friend of Dread Central:
“For those wondering, this news has come from Boyle himself. The director indicated to a good friend of our site that “there’s another 28 Days Later in the works.” When asked if the title would be 28 Months Later, Boyle replied “In theory, yes.” Immediately the next question was if he’d be producing, to which Boyle responded, “Actually I want to direct it.” There you have it, kids. From the horse’s mouth.”
This isn’t the first time Boyle has said of his interest in helming a third installment so all things point to a very probable yes. Danny’s latest drama thriller ‘127 Hours’, starring James Franco, Kate Mara (below), Clémence Poésy, Lizzy Caplan and Amber Tamblyn is the true-life account of a mountain climber whom becomes trapped under a boulder whilst canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. Early reports are that some scenes are too intense and have caused medics to be called to some screenings due to some particular patrons not feeling so good. Awesome!
‘127 Hours’ arrives nationwide next month (5 November) but sadly not until 7 January 2011 here in the UK.
