Fincher Not Interested in Sequel to ‘Seven’

Whilst on the trail of promoting his latest helming effort ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ director David Fincher discussed the possibility of a sequel to the brilliant 90’s thriller horror ‘Seven’.

During a Q&A session, at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Fincher was asked about a sequel and Fincher simply stated: “I would be less interested in that than I would in having cigarettes put out in my eyes.” He added: “I keep trying to get out from under my own shadow. I don’t want to do the same shit over and over.”

Well thats fair enough. ‘Seven’ stands in my mind as one of the great thrill movies in the past 20 years so why bludgeon that with an unnecessary follow-up. The original ended amazingly and shockingly so let’s just leave it at that.

The proposed sequel was supposed to focus around Morgan Freeman’s Detective Somerset character. And a couple ideas for this sequel would have Somerset dealing with a long lost Deadly Sin or gaining clairvoyant abilities to help him track a psychic killer. What’s the point!
