The hugely anticipated movie adaption of the popular video game ‘BioShock’ has gotten itself a new director. Originally ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ helmer Gore Verbinski was set to direct but he has opted out of directorial duties since the flick is now due to shoot abroad. Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will be replacing him.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo previously directed ’28 Weeks Later’ which I was pretty impressed with so I am extremely hopeful of a decent adaption here.
‘BioShock’ takes place in the underwater city of Rapture, where a pilot crash-lands near a secret entrance and becomes involved in a power struggle.
The choice to shoot the movie overseas is for tax and exchange rate purposes. Verbinski had to pull out due to the fact that he is already locked in as director of the new Paramount animated feature ‘Rango’.
