The sexy ‘Barbarella’ is due for a return, this time in the form of a new TV series from acclaimed ‘Drive’ director Nicolas Winding Refn. Based on a French comic book by Jean-Claude Forest that was adapted for the big screen back in 1968 the new series has just acquired a couple of new scribes to tackle the interesting script. ‘Skyfall’ and other James Bond installment writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been tapped to pen the sci-fi project for Gaumont International Television. The ’68 ‘Barbarella’ movie starred Jane Fonda (below) as the scantily clad intergalactic agent so it’ll be very interesting to see who slips on the space boots this time around with the pleasing knowledge that the action and themes of ‘Barbarella’ always pleasingly revolved around charged eroticism.
“I’m extremely excited that Neal and Robert have signed on to develop and write Barbarella with me,” said Refn. “I’m certain that the combination of our creative forces will produce a show that is as enthralling as it is sexy.”
“An intergalactic agent is dispatched to apprehend missing scientist whose latest handiwork threatens to bring evil back to the galaxy.”
