Deadline are now reporting that Mel Gibson is indeed in “serious discussions” to play a supporting role in Robert Rodriguez’s (‘Sin City’) ‘Machete’ follow-up ‘Machete Kills’. The synopsis revealed when the sequel was first announced mentions both a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer which we have to assume is the part that Gibson is up for. With sparse offers of work that Gibson receives nowadays due to his controversial private life we have to expect he won’t be passing on this one. Danny Trejo is back and hotties Jessica Alba (‘Idle Hands’) and Michelle Rodriguez (‘Resident Evil’) are also reportedly being lined up to reprise their roles from the first movie. ‘My Week with Marilyn’ star Michelle Williams is also on Rob’s cast hitlist but no official word on whether this is even on the cards.
“The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.”
