William Ross has been hired to score an upcoming horror film entitled DRIFTWOOD. Described by its director, Tim Sullivan, as a teen COOL HAND LUKE set in a haunted attitude adjustment camp, the film stars Ricky Ullman, Dallas Page, and Talan Torriero and is set to premiere in the fall. Sullivan directed another genre film last year, 2001 MANIACS, which was scored by Nathan Barr.
Interviewed by Fangoria, Sullivan told the mag that the film is “character-driven and not a gorefest. In the story, Ricky plays a troubled kid who gets thrown into this hellish place. His character is having a tough time adjusting to life after his rock star brother, played by Russell Simms, overdoses. Ricky has all this guilt, and his trauma connects him with the ghost at the troubled youth facility. Our hero then clashes with the evil warden [Page] and Talan, one of the guards who beats on the kids. Connor Ross, who was just on “Surface,” plays the ghost.”
William Ross is a veteran composer who has scored films such as HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (adapting John Williams’ themes), LADDER 49, TUCK EVERLASTING, and TIN CUP – however this is his first horror scoring assignment. Another recently completed assignment for William Ross is September Dawn, Christopher Cain’s romantic Western starring Lolita Davidovich, Jon Voight, Jon Gries, and Terence Stamp.
