Moviehole talked to busy genre screenwriter Jake Wade Wall, who among other things confirms that a follow-up to this year’s WHEN A STRANGER CALLS remake is already in the works. “We started working on the sequel before the first film came out, and I’m really excited about it,” says Wall, who reveals that the new movie will tell us a lot more about its featured villain that the previous film, which left his background and motivations in the dark. “A lot of people got so pissed about that. That was something I had personal pride in…but absolutely [we will find out more about him].” The writer also notes that if they wind up going with a direct continuation of STRANGER’s story, than actress Camilla Belle will “definitely be back” to play the terrorized young heroine.
Wall also provides an update on the endlessly discussed ninth HALLOWEEN film. “I’ve been hired three different times for it,” he says of the project, for which his take was titled HALLOWEEN: THE MISSING YEARS and dealt with Michael Myers’ time in the asylum. “At times it was really exciting, and at other times, it really wasn’t. Then, with the whole Miramax debacle, everything kind of stopped on their franchises for a while. Having said that, it looks like it’s finally set to go. I know that they’re in the process of nailing down a really big director…but I haven’t been able to figure out who it is yet. The problem is that whoever this big director is, he apparently fancies himself a bit of a writer/director. I do know that it’s my script that they’re going off, but that’s about it.”
