Now here’s some real damn good news to brighten up your dreary Thursday – on the proviso it turns out to be a solidified fact. Steven Spielberg’s fantastic horror opus ‘Jaws’ is finally coming to Blu-ray! At long long last the terror, the chills and all other Amity Island action can be viewed in definition of the highest quality. ‘Jaws’ just happens to be not only this reporters favourite horror flick of all time but in fact my favourite film of all time so I’m giddy with excitement to say the least. Universal Studios are reportedly ready to unleash this bad boy onto Blu-ray next Summer from 14 August 2012 just in time to feed that ‘entering the water’ uncertainty for those holiday makers out there. In less exciting news it also seems that a selection of the ‘Jaws’ sequels may also be released on Blu-ray at the same time. The release of ‘Jaws 3D’ on Blu-ray 3D will be one of them.
“It’s a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn’t sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy’s mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward. A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature down for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brodie and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brodie succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they’re going to need a bigger boat.”
