Earlier this year MGM and Fox 2000 pushed their planned ‘Poltergeist’ remake all the way back to February 2015. And aside from a few cast announcements to date we haven’t heard a hell of a lot from the production. ‘Monster House’s Gil Kenan is directing the project which has just been shifted to yet another new release date. There has been no rumours of production troubles so the most likely explanation is simply so that it doesn’t have to come up against Universal’s ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ which will also be arriving next February. The new release spot for the Sam Raimi (‘Evil Dead’) and Robert Tapert produced redo is 24 July 2015.
The remake stars Sam Rockwell (‘Seven Psychopaths’), Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris (‘Mad Men’), Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett (‘The Following’) and Jane Adams.
“In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.”
