Fango got the scoop from director Francis J. Sampier and associate producer Rob Webb on their new feature MORROW RD., a horror movie that features “four out of the five EVIL DEAD actors and actresses,” Webb tells us, “including Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly [a.k.a. Sarah York] and Hal Delrich. Recently, we signed EVIL DEAD makeup effects artist Tom Sullivan, who will have a part in the movie; we also have Richard Riehle, who has had a very successful acting career in over 172 movies and TV shows, including TREMORS, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and the new HATCHET and THE DARKROOM. Andrea Smith rounds out the acting lineup.”
“I am now looking to see if Bruce Campbell would like to ‘complete the picture,’ ” Sampier adds, “and make it a true EVIL DEAD reunion!” The director describes MORROW RD. as “a serious and dark horror film that deals with a group of young adults who unwillingly have to solve the deadly mystery of why a woman haunts that road looking for her son—a mystery that stretches over 100 years.” Elaborating on the movie’s inspiration, Webb says, “MORROW RD. is based on an actual legend out of Algonac, Michigan near Harsens Island, which has been featured on UNSOLVED MYSTERIES and several local news channels. That story revolves around a woman who abandoned her child on Morrow Road in the 1800s, then changed her mind—but when she returned to get the child, it was gone. People claim to have seen strange orbs floating toward them down the road, a lady in an 1800s dress covered in blood walking alongside it, or the woman hanging from a tree by a rope cinched tightly around her neck.”
MORROW RD. will be lensed in hi-def entirely on location in Michigan in June-July 2007. “This has been a long time coming for me,” Webb says. “I have always loved horror movies, and now I’m on board to help make one! We are still locking in more actors and actresses and looking for another big gun or two. And we’ll be using an entire symphony and 60-piece choir to score the film. No cheesy cut-and-paste music here!” Webb is also serving as the movie’s graphic designer and created the poster; his art will be familiar to many horror fans from the covers of such Anchor Bay genre releases as HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II, DAY OF THE DEAD, CHILDREN OF THE CORN and many more. Check out those and other samples here.
Also contributing graphically to the project is storyboard artist Josh Werner; you can see a sample of his promo art below and a lot more at the project’s MySpace page, which also includes four trailers/teasers and other info. MORROW RD.’s official website can be found here.
