Freddy’s Dead is in my opinion is an improvement over part, not that part was stupid but it did lack a lot present in the original by Wes Craven. The story is that Freddy is dorment in Springwood, meaning he can’t leave the town in which he has been killing in. So Freddy sends out the last teenagers in Springwood to search for his long lost daughter.
He has amnesia so of course its a coicidence that he runs into her. His
daughter is a child psychologist at the next town children’s shelter. She has no memory of her life before her adoption. After meeting the young boy, known to them as John Doe because of his memory loss, she decides to take him to Springwood in hopes that it will trigger his memory and perhaps help him remember what he was doing at the time. Maggie(Freddy’s daughter) has been having dreams of her childhood, but before she could make anything out it would all disappear.
After entering into Springwood she finds three other teenagers from the
shelter in the back of their van (they were trying to escape). So she sends them to call the shelter and tell them where they are, while she and John go in search of answers, what they find is a town with crazy parents and no children. In the meantime, the three children attempt to leave but a force won’t let them and leads them to Freddy’s house where they plan to spend the night, so let the killing begin. There are some good kills in this picture, but not many, one of the kills tries to hype on the popularity of Nintendo. Director Rachel Talalay does a good job at making the town look and feel isolated, as there is a Town Fair but no kids. There’s also some good surprise cameos from past Nightmare players to TV show icons. The graphics are good for its time (exploding head, Nintendo death, -D atmosphere).
The film also gives the viewers an insight on Freddy’s childhood that
says; maybe it wasn’t just his maniacs of fathers that gave him the criminal and homicidal mind. I never seen this movie in -D yet, but I’m about to get the DVD box set and they give you a pair of glasses.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Good way to end the series, (until New Nightmare) Robert England is in top form in this sequel and still has it. Alice Cooper, Roseanne Arnold, Tom Arnold, and Johnny Depp have cameos.
