Criminal Duane Whitaker attempts to set-up a bank job, gets bitten by
‘Titty Twister’ bartender Danny Trejo and then sets about biting all of
his cronies, including brooding Robert Patrick. Bo Hopkins once again
plays the hick sheriff stereotype.
Not as bad as you’d think but then again, I preferred Quentin Tarantino’s
screenplay for the first film more than anything else the guy has done.
This direct-to-video sequel has some mildly entertaining set-pieces but
you’ve seen it all before.
Not original, and we don’t care one iota about
any of these thin characters. Patrick (who can act when he tries) looks
bored, they should’ve replaced him with the always tongue-in-cheek Bruce
Campbell, who has a boring cameo here.
The FX are better than one might anticipate, but nothing earth-shattering,
the real bonus is the ingenuity brought by director Scott Spiegel, who
uses a lot of fancy tricks and angles I tend to find pretentious, but here
they work to liven things up a bit.
OVERALL SUMMARY
It’s a C+ sequel to a B-grade original, but if you don’t have high
expectations, the film offers some mild entertainment.
