This long lost 70’s film has finally been put out on DVD and I’m surprised no-one had thought of the idea sooner, as it’s highly relevant to current sociological issues.
The premise sees stressed out City couple Peter and Marcia head off for a long weekend of camping in the Australian outback. They run over a deer, litter the countryside and begin hacking down trees to make way for their camp, even killing a few animals just for kicks.
In a truly unique way, we are then made to believe that nature is about to bite back and it isn’t pretty.
The thing I liked most about this flick was its eerie atmosphere and the way the story telling was handled.
The answers are never blatantly laid out for us. Are the couple having a breakdown due to stress? Is it all merely coincidence, or is Mother Nature about to unleash her beasts?
OVERALL SUMMARY
Creepy atmosphere, an unsettling mood, true to life performances and the simplest of filmmaking techniques make for a very interesting film with a nasty sting in its satisfying tail.
