    The Janitor (2003)

By Phil Davies Brown on October 25, 2004 Reviews

I’m pleased to report that I have finally seen this film, and it truly is the greatest horror comedy I have ever seen!!

Co-Director Andy Signore plays Lionel an underappreciated grunting misfit of a man, who tires of taking (and of course cleaning up) shit from the employees of the Generico Company where he and Mr. Growbo are the custodians.

It soon transpires that Lionel has been offing the staff and the fact that the feds have shown up to investigate the killings doesn’t stop him either.

Thanks to a chance encounter with some sorority sisters at a local bar, Lionel is almost guaranteed his dream job…cleaning for the sisters but Mr Growbo doesn’t take the news well and wages a war against Lionel. Things come to a dramatic yet hysterical conclusion in a bloodbath at the TNA sorority house.

From it’s opening moments The Janitor is an exceptionally well shot movie that benefits from wonderful editing, first rate photography and a genuis script full of one-liners that had me laughing out loud throughout.

The cast who are largely newcomers or indeeed not even actors at all, are genuinely good in their respective roles and only served to make the film even better than it already was.

The gore effects are excellent and the fact that they are so over the top only makes it even funnier. Limbs are torn off, people are gutted, and appendages are thrown left right and center whilst geysers of blood gush forth in a massacre unlike any other in recent horror history.

The comparisons to Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi were inevitable but are not without good reason, as these guys deserve to go far.

I would love to see the filmmakers do a horror movie with a big budget, but more importantly I want to know when the sequel will be out!!

    OVERALL SUMMARY
I honestly and truthfully cannot fault The Janitor on any level, as the filmmakers have clearly thought about every aspect of the film in great detail. This is a remarkable indie film, and a first rate low budget movie that delivers in every aspect except scares, but if your watching this for scares then you are completely missing the point.
