We open on young Jeremiah and his mother burying his poor Poppa. See, they are country folks and real religious too. They don’t like to mix with City folks and no one knows they are there deep in the woods.
When two extras from ‘Deliverance’ stumble upon Jeremiah and Momma, they make her ‘squeal like a piggy’ and slit her throat, before beating young Jeremiah and leaving him for dead on the cabin floor.
Years later A.C. Slater (oops, I mean Lehman) and his friends are on their annual camping trip and decide to set up camp next to Jeremiah’s cabin.
The youngsters soon regret it!!
The film is not nearly as bad as I had heard, what with a great cast and competent crew doing their best to scare the audience.
Surprisingly, the film did not make it easy to predict who would live and who would die, despite the obligatory stereotypical cast of characters.
There are a few stand out scenes, the most notable involving an urban legend being told around a camp fire.
The only thing that annoyed me was the ending, which basically made the preceeding 80 minutes seem totally pointless.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Not bad. A decent cast give watchable performances, and you’ll have fun playing spot the genre vet too.
