    Alien Vs. Predator (2004)

By Phil Davies Brown on October 25, 2004 Reviews

I wasn’t expecting much after reading the largely negative reviews for this film but I have to say that it was pleasantly enjoyable.

During an expedition to a recently discovered pyramid in Antartica, a team of experts discover that they are not alone as they have accidentally stumbled into the middle of a war between two of the silver screens most famous monsters.

The film started out well with decent performances from a good cast and managed to hold my interest throughout, but it did become silly towards the end.

It was a shame that they made this a 15 in order to bring in a larger audience as I felt that it lost some of the darkness present in the Alien films, and I didn’t like the updated predator design either.

There were plenty action sequences that gave you a mild jolt and a couple of mini jumps, but this film was nowhere near as scary as any of the previous Alien films.

I liked the subtle humour and Sanaa Lathan made for a good heroine, but I don’t think that the film did anything for either franchise.

One major bad point is that the dark set design and lighting coupled with quick edits meant that you could hardly see what was going on during the big fight sequence with the two main characters.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
A big budget blockbuster that is certainly entertaining but is instantly forgettable.
