Nastassja Kinski stars in this thriller about a successful business woman coping with the aftermath of a deep personal tragedy. She meets the man of her dreams and has the proverbial fairytale wedding after a whirlwind romance, only to discover that she is being stalked by her new husband’s deranged ex.
The material is pure cliché, yet despite an abundance of red herrings and blatant finger pointing, I found myself unable to guess the psycho’s identity up until the third act.
Despite its cheap and nasty cover art, this made for TV thriller has high production values, good performances and a number of slasher set pieces such as a scene in a sauna when our heroine is attacked with a huge hunting knife, not long after escaping an attack in a cemetery.
The well disguised killer begins her reign of terror via the usual voyeuristic, prank calling, graffiti messaging, tyre slashing methods, before upping the ante and wielding shovel, knife and gun. Let’s just be thankful that Nastassja didn’t have a pet rabbit.
The film does have some mild intrigue going for it, and it’s never dull in terms of aesthetics as our female protagonist is an interior designer of sorts.
OVERALL SUMMARY
In all, it’s typical of the type of thing you’d find on BBC1 late on a Monday evening. Not the most original thriller ever but it’s definitely worth a watch. You could even say I was even pleasantly surprised.
