This eerie little chiller borrows it’s structure and story idea from ‘John Carpenter’s The Fog’ but is a truly remarkable low budget homage.
A cast of the genre’s best horror vets play assorted residents of Port Emmet a small coastal town that is about to be hit by a hurricane.
Decades previously, the railway bridge that spans the sea gave way just as the circus train was approaching. The clown car sank to the bottom of the sea and was forgotten about after the townsfolk decided not to spend huge amounts of money to either retrieve the clown car, or put up a monument to commemorate the dead clowns.
As the residents prepare for the approaching hurricane, the dead clowns rise from theiry watery grave to exact their revenge, and it isn’t pretty.
The film is very creepy and managed to keep me entertained throughout despite the main characters hardly ever speaking.
There are a few minor editing and lighting flaws but in a low budget film with a dark nature they didn’t stand out too much.
The clowns are very creepy indeed and the gore effects only make the death scenes even more frightening.
Managing to be creepy, atmospheric, freaky, fun and frightening, ‘Dead Clowns’ is a wonderful low budget horror movie that kept me in suspense and freaked me out with it’s clever ending.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Fans of low budget horror movies have to see this as it is one of the best low budget films I have ever seen, and this may actually be the first straight to video horror film that has actually scared me.
