In 2006 director Andreas Prochaska had a hit on his hands with Austrian teen slasher ‘In 3 Tagen bist du tot’ which was essentially a European take on ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ which became so popular that Dimension films snapped it up for their EXTREME DVD label and released it in the US under the title of ‘Dead in 3 Days’.
Unsurprisingly, 2 years later a sequel followed, so in ‘In 3 Tagen bist du tot 2’ we catch up with the first film’s heroine Nina (Sabrina Reiter) who has tried to re-build her life by moving away and finding a new best friend in the record store where she works. When the authorities find the killer from the original film’s body, Nina reads about it in the newspaper and starts to experience nightmares where her best friend from back home and the only other teen survivor from the first film, Mona calls to her for help. Nina goes home in search of Mona and this leads her to another terrifying predicament.
With this sequel, director Prochaska re-captures the style and tone of the original but this film is an entirely different beast altogether.
The setting made it feel more like a sequel to Cold Prey a.k.a Fritt Vilt than its predecessor, but it was a beautifully shot, well-paced mystery which kept you guessing for the most part.
Where the film falters is in its climax as it is so stupid that it undoes any respect you had for the filmmakers and makes you feel as though you’ve wasted as much of your life as the victims on screen.
Sabrina Reiter, Julia Rosa Stockl, Andreas Kiendl and Susi Stach all return from the previous film in varying capacities but the new cast are very good too including Martin Loos who would go on to star with Reiter in One Way Trip 3D.
OVERALL SUMMARY
If you enjoy Euro-horror (particularly the Cold Prey series) then you should enjoy this, but please be ready for one of the dumbest endings ever to grace our screens.
